國立文樂劇場於昭和59年(1984年)開館，是日本第4間設立的國立劇場，擁有大小兩個劇場及免費展示室。大劇場以演出指定為世界無形遺產的「人形淨瑠璃」為主的演劇及舞蹈。而小劇場則在單數月舉行落語、漫才、浪曲等上方演藝特選會。
