夏洛滕堡宮是霍亨索倫家族(Hohenzollern-Familie)最豪華的宮殿。宮殿得名於普魯士國王弗裏德里希一世(Friedrich I.)的妃子索菲·夏洛滕(Sophie Charlotte)。

整個宮殿裝潢華麗,收藏了不少藝術珍品,加上法國人西蒙·戈德奧(Simon Godeau)設計建成的第一座巴洛克式花園, 十分值得瀏覽。
