據有八百年的悠久歷史，建於的金華山深頂上岐阜城於戰國時代被織田信長占有，並從「周文王起於岐山」、「孔子生於山東曲阜」兩個典故各取一字，改名為岐阜城。1943年被燒毀，而現存的岐阜城是於昭和31年（1956年）用鋼筋水泥仿造而成。

四樓的展望台可以眺望市內的長良川跟遠處的伊吹山巒。
