1873年建成的市政廳是新歌特式建築物，大廳前面的98米高塔(加上高3.4米的雕像)被視為維也納的吉祥物。 

7、8月夏季音樂會的時候，在天井和大廳前的廣場上有表演活動。聖誕節前一個月則有聖誕節市場，另外，展覽和商品交易會有時在宴會大廳舉行。
