總督府是一座哥德式建築，是共和國時代總督的住宅、辦公室及法院的所在地，其中最出名的是把總督府與威尼斯監獄連接的嘆息橋(Ponte dei Sospiri)，據說許多犯人面對判詞後押送到監獄時經過此橋從小窗望上自由的藍天都不禁發出嘆息。

現在總督府也有不少藝術收藏，如威尼斯派繪畫家Titian、Veronese、Tintoretto、Vittoria 及Tiepolo的作品。
