這個古劇場位於雅典衛城的南坡 。它是羅馬君皇Herodes Atticus為了紀念他的妻子 Aspasia Annia Regilla而於公元161年興建的．

現在這裡已是每年夏天希臘藝術節（Hellenic Festival）戲劇與音樂項目的表演場地之一，每年都不乏國際音樂巨星在此演出。
